Hello everyone!!! This has been a long winter: weather wise, attacks on our fellow Americans and a change in the political scene.Obviously we can’t do anything about the weather. It is difficult to predict and prevent the attacks that seem to be soft targets, mainly the educational institutions, students and staff. But, we can pressure our elected officials to look closely at those laws that can be put in place to help prevent these crimes. And, in doing so, we will hopefully change the political climate. Prevention is the key.
We, as retired educators, parents, grandparents, citizens and caring adults will continue to be informed and act accordingly. I don’t have the answers but will caution all of us to be aware of our surroundings, know our neighbors, reach out to those who live alone and be informed about local, state and world events.
In spite of the above, we raised money for four scholarships this year due to your generosity. We provided a wonderful workshop regarding about keeping your assets safe and scheduled key note speakers at our four luncheons.
There have been many changes on the Executive Board and the Philanthropic Committee. That’s part of life: nothing stays the same. It is our challenge to meet the changes and provide the best expertize to you, our members. At each Luncheon I ask you to place your email addresses on the back of the luncheon place cards so that we may reach you to share information; and, in the event of inclement weather we’ll be able to inform you if a luncheon or workshop is cancelled. That information would also be available on the OCREA Website. You can’t get away from it: the Internet is here to stay. Many of you have expressed thanks for the timely Constant Contact updates. It’s a sign of the times!
I look forward to seeing you at our luncheons and I know you enjoy seeing former colleagues and making new friends. We endeavor to provide keynote speakers that will be informative and encourage you to ask questions. If you have a suggestion for future speakers, please put that suggestion behind a place card at one of the Luncheons or email me. The Officers and members of the Executive Board welcome your inquiries and attend every luncheon so that you may speak with them on a personal basis.
On behalf of the Officers and members of the Executive Board, and the Women of the Wavelet, thank you for your continued support.
